MNSW Development day
Nov 10th we took a small team consisting of Luke Taylor and Kai Weate-jones out to PTJ gym in Gladesville for another exciting Muaythai development day, if you don’t know what these events are they provide people that are just getting into the sport of Muaythai an opportunity to put on the pads and headgear and get matched up to fight someone of same weight like a proper amateur show but at a far less stressful location and shorter rounds to help them gain experience to see if eventually fighting on the big shows is for them. In the corner we had Coach shane and Hugh, also Karina helped in the corner as she is keen to do more corner work in the future. First up we had Luke Taylor, this would be his first ever Development day fight and he performed quite nicely using a well timed kick game and a offence based clinch he secure a win from all three judges. Next up was one of our Juniors Kai who has already 4 racked up 4 development day bouts in the past 12 months, he unfortunately was not able to use his favourite technique the elbow as he’s opponent decided to opt out of elbow use, in the end it did not matter as Kai pushed a hard pace on the other guy and also used a dominant clinch game to seal a unanimous win. It was a great day out not only because we went 2 for 2, but the event was well run and it’s always great to see some potential up and comers getting their start on these event. Next one will be held at our gym Feb 23rd 2019!
Luke’s boxing fight at Club Punchbowl
Last Saturday neutral corner promotions matched up Luke “T-Bone” Thompson against one for his most experienced competitior’s to date, Deepak from Get smart boxing. Luke was coming in at a 20kg disadvantage but he is always game to fight to challenge and better himself as a Boxer. The match itself was competitive with Luke let go blitzing combinations and technical footwork and Deepak picking heavy potshots from a Double arm guard position. after 3 rounds of action the judges cameback with a unanimous verdict in favour of the T-Bone. Now Luke is going to take the rest of the year off competing and focus on rebuilding in this offseason.
