welcome

After School Kung Fu - 6 to 12 years old.

The objective of this program actually has very little emphasis on the fighting art, but utilises the motor skills, balance, co-ordination, strength, exercises & routines incorporated in our Traditional Jin Wu Koon Shaolin Kung Fu system, taught at Double Dragon Martial Arts Gym Sutherland.

Goal setting & achieving plus building self esteem are an integral parts of this programme, we have created 7 junior grades for the young students to focus on, the first 5 are badges, which give them specific challenges to achieve their goals. There will be no extra charges for the badges.

- Badge 1 - Is a discipline & concentration badge, which requires the student to stay alert & occasionally give a simple description of what the group is doing eg. Back fist strike or groin kick etc.

- Badge 2 - Stances & balance badge which requires the student to understand & perform 3 traditional Kung Fu stances, Forward Stance, Horse Riding Stance & Cat Stance. These traditional stances develop lower body strength, posture, teach a strong base, balance & weight transfer, a prerequisite for Martial Arts & self-defence.

- Badge 3 - Understanding how to stretch, plus the benefits of flexibility also understanding & performing 3 basic kicks, front kick, groin kick & low round kick at thigh level will earn this badge.

- Badge 4 - Is earned when the student is competent with the Buda hand form, inner, outer & lower single hand blocking & basic hand strikes.

- Badge 5 - Is an exercise & strength development badge. This requires the student to perform a forward & backward arm shoulder roll from the knees. Another requirement for this goal is to perform 10 push-ups, 10 triceps dips & 15 sit-ups. These exercises must be performed with an understanding of posture & form, necessary in early strength development.

- Badge 6 - Orange Belt. After all 5 badges have been earned the student qualifies to grade to the first junior grade, the student must be competent with all the basics & must perform the first junior level Kata.

- Badge 7 - Orange Belt brown stripe The student must have progressed & developed a better understanding for all the previous tasks & perform the 2nd junior Kata.

After these goals have been achieved the students then make the transition into the Jin Wu Koon Shaolin Double Dragon grading curriculum which from my experience has been too bigger hurdle for a majority the Junior students In the past & this programme allows us to give the progressive incentives to focus more on these early development areas. Master Mick Spinks, 35 years training & level 2 NCAS coach will teach the program. The Double Dragon Gym has some of Micks original students training & coaching there after 25 years.
