I feel silly as I do not know anything and I am uncoordinated.
Everybody has to be a beginner; we know that as we teach them every day. Students come to learn at all levels so everyone is pre occupied with their own goals so they do not really care if you can do something or not. If you try to learn 1 thing every time you train you will really make good gains.
What do I wear?
There are uniforms for some of the systems but none of them require you to have them straight away. When you grade (if you want to grade) is when you would be required to wear a uniform. So initially something comfortable to suit the season will be ok.
• Please bring a towel to training, especially in summer.
• In the beginners Kickboxing, Dragon Fist Freestyle and Boxing skill and Fitness you can buy a set of liners at reception for $2 and borrow our bag mitts to get started you can continue to borrow our mitts as long as you wear the liners for hygiene.
• Starting out in the Kung Fu you just need to wear comfortable clothing.
• For the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu no equipment is required but it is a GI class so do not wear flimsy clothes, a football top and tracksuit pants are OK to try out the class.
Shoes are not usually worn as the floor is rubber jigsaw mats. If you do need to wear shoes to train no street shoes, running shoes or coarse soled shoes please. Martial arts, wresting or smooth soled shoes are suitable.
How much does it cost to sign up?
There are NO joining fees a casual class is $18 so you can just give it a try. We have packages but no contracts or direct debits.
Do I have to spar or will I get hit?
All beginner classes work with boxing focus pads and kick pads, there is no contact. Intermediate levels do light reaction type sparring whilst improving their technique. If you did want to do spar for any reason that would be OK.
